FD起動で最新Linuxをネットワークインストールする（CD-ROMドライブ無しの最新Linuxインストール）

DynaBook Satellite 4600 に CentOS 5.2 をインストールする手順。

■やりたいこと
次の環境/状態のPCに最新のCentOSをインストールする。

  • FDDブートができる
  • CD-ROMドライブが無い/CD-ROMブートができない
  • USBブートもできない
  • Internet接続環境はある

■手順の概要

  1. CentOS3.9の起動FDD作成(CentOS4以降FDDブートはできないため)
  2. FDD起動からFTPでCentOS3.9をインストール
  3. 稼動しているCentOS3.9からCentOS5.2のインストールを起動
  4. CentOS5.2稼動

■ノートPC

■環境

■用意したもの

  • FD2枚
  • Windows機(Linux機で行う方法もある。必要な場合は調べて)
  • USB-FDD(Windows機にFDDついているならもちろん不要)


■起動FD作成

Windows機にUSB-FDDを接続しAドライブとして認識され、動作することを確認する。Windows機で次の3つのファイルをダウンロードして同じフォルダに保存する。

  3. http://ftp2.riken.jp/Linux/centos/3.9/os/i386/images/drvnet.img

FDをドライブに入れる。rawrite.exeをダブルクリック。次の通り質問に答える。

Enter disk image source file name: bootdisk.img
Enter target diskette drive: A
Please insert a formatted diskette into drive A: and press -ENTER- :

FDを入れ替える。

Enter disk image source file name: drvnet.img
Enter target diskette drive: A
Please insert a formatted diskette into drive A: and press -ENTER- :

※インストール時にdrvnet.imgのFDに入れ替えてもまだエラーが出る場合は、pcmciadd.imgが必要かも。上記同様の手順でFDを作成する。

■CentOS3.8のインストール

CentOS3.8は、CentOS5.2をインストールするために必要なだけなので最低限のインストールを適当にやればよい。

bootdisk.imgを書き込んだFDを入れて起動する(BIOSの設定で起動ドライブの優先順位を変更する必要があるかも)。

  1. boot: [Enter]
  2. Choose a Language : English
  3. Keyboard Type : jp106
  4. Installation Method : FTP
  5. No driver found : Use a driver disk
  6. Driver Disk Source : fd0
  7. Insert Driver Disk : (drvnet.imgのFDに入れ替えてから)OK
  8. Configure TCP/IP : Use dynamic IP configuration (BOOTP/DHCP)
  9. FTP Setup

ここからは通常通りのインストール(テキストモード)。

  1. CentOS3
  2. Mouse Selection : Generic - 2 Button Mouse (PS/2) , Emulate 3 Buttons?にチェック
  3. Installation Type : Custom
  4. Disk Partitioning Setup : Autopartition
  5. Automatic Partitioning : Remove all partitions on this system
    1. Warning : Yes
    2. Partitioning : OK
  6. Boot Loader Configuration : Use GRUB Boot Loader
    1. A few systems will need ... : OK
    2. A boot loader password ... : OK
    3. The boot manager ... : OK
    4. Where do you want to install the boot loader? : /dev/hda Master Boot Record (MBR)
  7. Network Configuration for eth0 : OK
  8. Hostname Configuration : manually -> dyna (ホスト名はお好きに)
  9. Firewall : No firewall
  10. Language Support : English (USA)
  11. Time Zone Selection : Asia/Tokyo
  12. Root Password : ********
  13. Package Group Selection : すべてのチェックを外す
  14. Installation to begin : OK

インストールが開始される。しばし待つ。インストールが終わったらFDを抜いて再起動。

■CentOS5.2の準備

CentOS3.8を起動。rootでログイン。CentOS5.2のブートイメージをダウンロードする。

mkdir /boot/centos5
cd /boot/centos5
wget http://ftp2.riken.jp/Linux/centos/5.2/os/i386/isolinux/initrd.img
wget http://ftp2.riken.jp/Linux/centos/5.2/os/i386/isolinux/vmlinuz

続いて、grub.confを編集する。

vi /boot/grub/grub.conf
以下の項目を追加します。
title CentOS-5 Install
        root (hd0,0)
        kernel /centos5/vmlinuz ramdisk_size=8192
        initrd /centos5/initrd.img

/boot/から始まっていないことに注意。

■CentOS5.2のインストール

再起動。起動時のGRUBで CentOS-5 Install を選択する。

  1. Choose a Language : English
  2. Keyboard Type : jp106
  3. Installation Method : FTP
  4. Configure TCP/IP : Enable IPv4 support , Dynamic IP configuration (DHCP)
  5. FTP Setup

ここからは通常通りのインストール(テキストモード)。

  1. System to Upgrade : Reinstall System
  2. Partitioning Type : Remove all partitions on selected drives and create default layout.
    1. Warning : Yes
    2. Review Partition Layout : Yes
    3. Partitioning : OK
  3. Low Memory : Yes
  4. Boot Loader Configuration : Use GRUB Boot Loader
    1. A few systems will need ... : OK
    2. A boot loader password ... : OK
    3. The boot manager ... : OK
    4. Where do you want to install the boot loader? : /dev/hda Master Boot Record (MBR)
  5. Configure Network Interface : Yes
  6. Network Configuration for eth0 : Activate on boot , Enable IPv4 support
  7. IPv4 Configuration for eth0 : Dynamic IP configuration (DHCP)
  8. Hostname Configuration : manyally -> dyna (ホスト名は自由)
  9. Time Zone Selection : Asia/Tokyo (System clock uses UTCはチェックを外す)
  10. Root Password : ********
  11. Package selection : Customize software selection のみチェック
  12. Package Group Selection : BASE , GNOME Desktop Environment , X Window System
  13. Installation to begin : OK

無事CentOS5.2が起動してきたら成功。CUIで起動してくるのでstartxでGNOME起動で大成功。

でも、なぜか英語。メニューの[Applications]-[Add/Remove Software]から(起動直後はバックグラウンドで動いているので起動できない。それが終わるのを待ってから)Package Managerを起動。[Browse]-[Languages]-[Japanese Support]にチェックを入れ[Apply]をクリック。
メニューの[system]-[Administration]-[Language]からLanguage Selectionを起動。[Japanese - 日本語](日本語の部分が文字化けしていないこと)を選択して[OK]。ログオフして再ログイン。日本語環境になる。
